Is a hand luggage suitcase included with TUI fly – or do I have to pay extra? This is exactly where the most important question lies: The large trolley is not free in any TUI fly fare. TUI fly hand luggage 2026 – the rules at a glance
TUI fly is one of the major German holiday airlines, departing from Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Hannover, Munich and Stuttgart to Mallorca, the Canary Islands, the Greek islands or the Red Sea. For hand luggage there is one clear rule: A small bag is free in every fare – the large trolley, on the other hand, is never automatic. You add it for a surcharge.
1. The small bag (free)
The small hand luggage is free in every TUI fly fare and must fit under the seat in front of you:
- Dimensions: 40 × 30 × 20 cm
- Weight: up to approx. 6 kg
- Storage: under the seat in front of you
- Suitable for this: underseater bags, small shoulder bags or compact backpacks
2. The large hand luggage trolley (chargeable)
You have to book the classic cabin trolley separately in every fare:
- Dimensions: 55 × 40 × 20 cm (including wheels and handles)
- Weight: max. 10 kg, 1 piece
- Cost: approx. 10 € per person and route (online) – including Priority Boarding
- Suitable for this: hand luggage suitcases in 55 × 40 × 20 cm, cabin backpacks or travel bags in hand luggage format
Important: Unlike at Lufthansa or Condor, the large trolley at TUI fly is free in no fare – this has been the case since November 2023. Anyone travelling only with the free 40 × 30 × 20 cm bag avoids the surcharge entirely. If you need more space, booking online in advance (approx. 10 €) is significantly cheaper than at the airport.

TUI fly checks dimensions and weight at the gate. If your hand luggage does not fit within the permitted dimensions or you have not booked the trolley in advance, the piece of baggage is transported in the hold for a fee – and that is considerably more expensive at the airport than online.
Money-saving trick: Decide honestly before booking whether the free 40 × 30 × 20 cm bag is enough. For a short trip, often yes. If you need the trolley, book it online (approx. 10 €) rather than at the gate. And when choosing a suitcase, watch the external dimensions including wheels and handles.
Checked baggage & fees at TUI fly
- Base / Pure: no checked baggage included – can be added
- Better / Perfect: 1 piece up to 20 kg included
- Best / Premium: 1 piece up to 25 kg included
- Excess baggage: approx. 16 € per additional kilo
- Important: Adding online is always cheaper than at the airport – there a 20 kg suitcase quickly costs around 120 €

- Up to 100 Wh permitted; 100–160 Wh only with prior registration, over 160 Wh prohibited

5 money-saving tips for your TUI fly hand luggage
- Make the most of the small bag: 40 × 30 × 20 cm is enough for a short trip – and it is free.
- Book the trolley online: Adding it in advance (approx. 10 €) is cheaper than handing it over at the gate – and includes Priority Boarding.
- Pack to exact dimensions: Better an exact 55 × 40 × 20 cm than a suitcase that bulges at the edges. Wheels and handles count too.
- Choose a lightweight suitcase: Every kilo of empty weight comes off the 10 kg limit. Modern hand luggage suitcases often weigh under 2.5 kg.
- Checked baggage online: At the airport it quickly costs double. For two travellers, a shared checked suitcase is often worthwhile.
